4 Reasons Why Small Businesses Should Be Thinking

“Mobile First”

A mostly mobile world has become inevitable.

Mobile search and activity will surpassdesktop usage in the very near future, and66% of users simply won’t return to a website if it gives them trouble on their mobile device. For these reasons, it has become critical for businesses to implement appropriate mobile strategies.
But simple implementation has already become the norm! Now, in order to truly maximize the opportunities present, prepare for future changes, and earn a competitive advantage, small businesses would be well advised to be thinking “mobile first.” That is, not just reluctant publication of an app or mobile site, but enthusiastic embracing of mobile technology into core operations.
 Here’s why:
1. It will focus you
Mobile leaves very little room for fluff. In the process of designing your mobile website and app, writing short notifications and offers, and participating in short-length social media, you will focus on what matters most to your business. Your most important offerings will naturally be front-and-center in your thinking, and unimportant distractions will fade.
2. You can make mistakes while it is still relatively early
It’s no longer correct to say that mobile is in an “early” stage of development, but it is still relatively early in terms of total cultural and industry saturation. There is still time to experiment, make mistakes, and correct them. Soon, this window will be closing, and users will have no tolerance for mobile experiences that are not totally polished.
The analogous experience would be to go to an outdated website. Now that beautiful websites have become the norm, are you still able to take a business seriously if the website doesn’t look professional? Many consumers are not.
Mobile will soon be the same way, if it isn’t already.
3. It can boost innovation
Testing out new business strategies will open up your thinking and invigorate your business. Many things are possible with mobile technology, and by getting into the game, you may find new ways to connect with customers, improve your offerings, and increase revenue. In a way, a mobile first approach can help your business stay “young” in its attitude toward community interaction.
4. You can get ahead of the competition
Mobile strategies are a must, but many small business owners still lag behind. By taking charge and adopting a mobile first approach, you can gain a significant edge over your competition. Since users are clamoring for mobile interaction, they will favor the business that gives it to them. Be the first mover, and you can get a big jump on the competition.
By the time competitors decide to participate, you’ll already be miles ahead.

World Mobile Apps demand

Mobile App Sales To Exceed $30 Billion This Year (Android Authority)
It’s hard to deny the major impact of smartphones and tablets, especially when it comes to mobile apps. Apps have become important not only for entertainment and information, but have even impacted the way we interact with others. By the end of the year, total revenues accumulated from mobile apps will pass the $30 billion mark. This accumulated amount comes from various platforms from iOS to Android, and even Windows Phone and Blackberry. The total isn’t just from traditional paid apps either, and includes in-app purchases, subscriptions and in-app advertisements. Even more impressive than the number itself is the growth it represents when compared to last year. This $30 billion figure is double what was achieved by the end of 2011. Don’t expect things to slow down anytime soon.
Mobile Marketing Used For Customer Acquisition (Forrester and Velti via Econsultancy)
Mobile marketing is predominantly used for customer acquisition and brand awareness, according to new research from Forrester and Velti. The survey found that 86% of respondents use the channel for customer acquisition, while 79% use it for awareness. A further 78% said they use mobile for loyalty and retention and 66% for customer satisfaction.

Forrester Research
The survey also asked respondents which mobile marketing tactics they use. Reflecting the fact that social media is a hugely popular activity on smartphone, 66% of marketers said they invest in social mobile advertising. Display was the second most popular activity (44%) followed by mobile web landing pages with promotions and location-targeted advertising (both 37%).

And what are the key performance indicators (KPIs) that marketers use to assess their mobile efforts? The most common answer was web traffic and visitors (63%), followed by CTR (58%), brand awareness (54%) and revenue (44%).

The report takes this as further evidence that too many mobile advertisers are using desktop marketing tactics and haven’t yet adapted to the opportunities presented by mobile.
China To Overtake U.S. In Smartphone Installations (Read Write Mobile)
Mobile analytics company Flurry is predicting that China will overtake the U.S. in iOS and Android installations by the first quarter of 2013. According to estimates, China has 167 million iOS and Android devices active, trailing the U.S. by only 14 million. With a growth rate approaching 300%, China is on a pace to overtake the U.S. very soon.

Cyber Monday Slows Mobile Web To A Crawl (CNN)
This week's Cyber Monday online shopping bonanza set new records, but the growing number of consumers who shopped on their phones and tablets often encountered brick-and-mortar-like delays on sluggish sites. On average, mobile retail sites took more than 18 seconds to load on Monday, according to Keynote, a mobile and website monitoring company. That is over 4x the time that customers ideally want (under 4 seconds). It's also roughly twice the sites' normal load time and about seven times slower than the same websites' pages on laptops and desktops. Tablets and smartphones are becoming integral to the savvy shopping experience. Customers are increasingly taking their mobile devices to retail stores to determine whether they can get a better deal for a certain item online. That trend has made slow mobile website speeds detrimental to business.

We provide iPhone, iPad, Android and HTML5  app management platform that allows any SMEs to manage the created mobile apps online without the need to have any programming knowledge.

What is a Native iPhone and Android App?
An iPhone app is a small computer program that runs on the iPhone. The iPhone can be a powerful marketing platform and ARBSMobileComm App takes full advantage of it.
An Android app is the similar but designed to be downloaded onto Android phones.

What is the difference between a “Web app” and a “Native app”?
A web app is nothing more than a website optimized for viewing on mobile phones. It is still a website. A native app is a computer program that installs itself on your phone.
A web app is “installed” by bookmarking the app’s URL in the mobile browser and saving it to your phone’s home screen. A native app can only be installed from Apple App Store (for iPhones) or Google Play Store (for Android Phones).
Web apps cannot utilize phone hardware capabilities such as scanning QR codes and push notifications. In terms of performance, web apps are slower than native apps because everything, including icons, buttons and graphics, has to be loaded from internet every time the user launch the app.

How can a ARBSMobileComm App help your business?
iPhone and Android phones have taken the world by storm largely because of the applications that users are able to download and use on their phone. They provide instant information and provide customers with a direct way to contact a business from their iPhone or Android device. With our ARBSMobileComm App you can engage, inform, and impress your customers. We also provide ARBSMobileComm Apps that are specifically designed to help build brand loyalty and create frequent buyers for your business with the use of our check in coupon system.

How can you build brand-loyalty with ARBSMobileComm App?
ARBSMobileComm App is the ideal solution for SMEs looking to create brand loyalty and frequent buyers. We do so by providing SMEs with a mobile application that rewards customers for frequent visits through coupon rewards that are unlocked using our “check in coupon system.”

How does the check in coupon system work?
When a customer checks in at a business’s location, they will receive a reward coupon for the 10th, 25th, 50th, 100th, 500th, and even 1000th check in. This coupon system is completely customizable by the business and can be edited in real time via our clients’ user panel.
These coupons will appear as images on the application and when used, they will be deleted with a push of a button on the user’s phone by the employer to ensure a coupon is not used multiple times. This also removes the need for additional equipment to verify the coupon such as barcode scanners or unique coupon codes, allowing a very low start up cost for businesses. This system is extremely simple, cost efficient, and very effective for SMEs to build up brand-loyalty with their customers.

Downloading the mobile application by scanning QR Codes
Q: Apart from searching and downloading the mobile application from AppStore, can the business owner use ’Application QR Code’ to led their customers / mobile users to download the business mobile app without having their customers to go and search for it from the AppStore?
A: Yes, our backend dashboard will generate the QR codes for iPhone, Android and HTML 5 downloads of the app.
By: Erene
Can ARBSMobileComm app system create ebooks
Q: Can we use the app to create ebook for sale/download?
A: Not at the moment
By: shum
Can I use my own developer account to publish apps?
Q: I understand that ARBS will do all the submission to the Apple/Android using ARBS’s developer’s account…how about the IP protection for my APP and the contents?
A: ARBS will be the publisher, but the IP of the content belongs to you. This is similar to book publishing.
Q: Can we use own Account to submit to Apple/Android using ARBS mobile app platform so that we can protect our own IP (our app) as long as we pay the annual fees to ARBS?
A: No, you cannot publish your app using your own developer account.
By: shum
Login Control Within App
Q: The final app that will go live…can I have login in control so that only if they login, they can access the app? Can i have option to login via Facebook login?
A: No, you are not able to have login for the entire app. But we can implement password protected content with a tab of the app.
By: shum
Charging for Apps
Q: Can i charge for people to download my App?
A: Yes you can. Apple will take 30% revenue of all apps sold thru its App Store
Q: What about in-App Purchase? I hear that Apple do not encourage ecommerce using 3rd party tools but to have in-App purchase through their iTunes?
A: Currently, we do not offer in-app purchase capability.
By: shum
Check In Coupon Question
Q: For check in 10 times to entitle a coupon. The check in tab is pressed by user not buz owner side ? So if the user in the gps location of the store but never eat or buy things, they can press check in as well, that is not genuine check in ?
By: Leow
A: The GPS Coupon is used to reward customers for checking in at the store. The customer unlocks a reward for coming into the store a certain number of times. The QR Coupon module, on the other hand, is used to reward customers for repeat purchases. The customer unlocks a reward only after a certain number of purchases is verified by scanning a unique QR code that only the service staff would have.
Searchable text for the app

Q: in App store, we can do search, what part of the text that are being searched? eg Name, description, etc? Can we use tagging or keywords to help our App appear on the search?
By: shum
A: You can actually input the relevant keywords for your app when you are ready to publish it. It’s under the “Publish” section under “App Information”->”App Keywords”
Use of push notifications

Q: I hear that Apple has guidelines on what we can use the push notifications for? and they dont encourage use of it for marketing message. Kindly advise.
A: Users who downloaded the app are prompted to opt in to push notifications the first time they open the app. This is equivalent to opt-in permission. Users can turn off the app’s push notifications anytime. It is only against Apple’s TOS if you send push notifications to a user who has opt-out. If you violate the TOS, your app may be removed from the App Store.
By: shum
Creating Forms/ Mailing List
Q: If i have a form built in to collect mailing list…is this hosted at ARBS server? or is it integrated to 3rd party provider? Or can it be on my own CRM on my own server?
A: You can make use of the “Mailing List” module to build a mailing list. The collected email list can be exported as a csv. It can also integrate with many popular email marketing services such as MailChimp. You can also embed your own form from your CRM using “Info” module.
By: shum
Converting Websites to Mobile Apps
Q: if client have existing website, eg on wordpress…can they convert to mobile app instantly? as a website app, not a native app build from scratch?
A: Yes, we can make use of the “RSS” module to do that. However, such apps will have difficulty being accepted into Apple App Store. Apple encourages apps to leverage on the iPhone’s hardware features such as GPS and camera. If it is a pure RSS app, Apple encourages publisher to simply go for mobile website, rather than publishing an app.
By: shum
What is required from client to build the app?
Q: What information is required from the Client to build the mobile app? To what extend will you help build the APP and what is done from client’s side? Will you help with the creativity or strategies of how best to use the app, eg what kind of campaigns client can do with features included, like the Check-in or QR coupon, etc? Or client needs to provide all that information/creativities/strategies to ARBS who will just build accordingly. A: We have a ARBSMobileComm App Information Sheet for you as our client to complete. We will provide suggestion on what modules to include in the app, based on the client’s business nature. The client has the freedom to add or remove modules, even after the app is being published to app stores. You as our client will have total control over the creativity and strategies on how to best use the app, after we build it.
By: shum
What do I get from the Annual Fees?
Q: From the annual fees, what exactly do I get? If I do not renew, will I lose all my data?
A: You get unlimited push notifications and no cost to any additional modules added to your mobile app. Your data are hosted on our servers, and will be lost  if subscription is stopped.
By: shum
Will I be able to know who downloaded my mobile app?
A: No, Apple and Android do not release these information. You can only know the number of downloads.
QR Code Questions
Q: How does the QR Code system work in the Mobile App? Can I create codes and print them to put on displays/ marketing collaterals to get people to scan so I can capture the leads?
A: The QR Coupon module is a QR code based loyalty program. You can create promotions in the ARBSMobileComm App Dashboard and the unique QR code for that particular promotion will be generated automatically. You can then download this QR Code and print them on paper. When your customer comes into your store, your customer will simply turn on your app, tap on the QR Coupon tab and scan the QR Code that your counter staff shows to him/her upon purchase. Upon scanning, a “loyalty stamp” will be recorded onto the customer’s QR Coupon tab in the app. Once a predetermined number of “loyalty stamps” are collected each time the customer makes a purchase in your store, a reward is unlocked and he/she can redeem it by showing it to the in-store staff.
Q: Does the person need to download my App before they scan the QR code with my app or can they just use any Scan program in their smartphone to scan the QR code?
A: The customer must use your app to scan the QR code to record his purchase as a “loyalty stamp”
By: shum
What happens if I want something that is currently not in your list of app modules?
A: We have app modules that covers a wide range of business functions. However, if you need some custom functions, then we will charge a custom development fee to implement it. The fee will depend on the complexity of the function required.
Does ARBSMobileComm App Cater For Different Android Phone Screen Sizes?
A: Yes it does. The images are automatically resized to fit the android device’s screen size.
